"At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that celebrate the power and possibility of the female voice,” said Karey Burke, exec vp programming and development at Freeform. “Season one of The Bold Type brought culturally significant stories to the masses that not only entertain, but also empower our viewers to conquer the world — we are excited to continue to champion these incredible women.”

The Bold Type is inspired by the life of Hearst Magazine chief content officer (and former Cosmo editor-in-chief) Joanna Coles and explores the lives and loves of those responsible for a global women's magazine called Scarlet. Faking It grad Katie Stevens stars in the drama that in its first season explored issues including sexual assault, sexuality and the push and pull between balancing work and a career.

"When we launched The Bold Type, we had no idea just how strongly it would resonate with young adult viewers who quickly saw their world of intense friendships, relationships, career ambitions, social media habits and crazy sex and love lives reflected back at them,” Coles said. “The positive response has been overwhelming — we couldn’t ask for better partners in Freeform and Universal TV and look forward to pushing the envelope further in season two with the phenomenal women and men of Scarlet.”
